As Correctional Centres aim to reduce recidivism in the community, it is through art programs like Macquarie’s that we can engage inmates to pro social activities, build and foster passion and give many individuals hopes, goals and successes.
Art is not considered a single subject, instead it’s a feeling, an emotion, a connection."
Macquarie Correctional Centre has developed a unique art program in which inmates are mentored and taught the finer aspects of visual art by fellow inmates who have developed their skills over a lifetime of experience. This program has had a positive therapeutic effect on inmates which has produced a great volume of wonderful expressive art. It is a credit to the progressive thinking approach of Macquarie Correctional Centre that programs such as this have been allowed to develop in full.’ BH
