Fong Lees LaneCelebrate in Fong Lees Lane Wellington, while surrounded by the diverse blend of cultures which dominated the past histories and shaped Wellington into the active and friendly township it is today.
This iconic lane in Wellington will transform into a colourful and vibrant outdoor eating venue. A range of multi-cultural foods will be available for purchase bring your friends and family and enjoy a night of live music, buskers, with night lanterns made by local students will complement the lanes atmosphere and awaken the rustic feel of old world China town. You will also be enchanted by the Chinese dragon that mysteriously appears in the lane at nightfall as it dances its way along the lane. |
Community Collaborations
Lantern Workshops
On Sunday 21 October a group of 20 Wellington children from Barnardos and WINS will be attending a lantern workshop in Dubbo. Where they will be painting and decorating lanterns at the DREAM Festival workshops. These lanterns will be hung in Fong Lees Lane for everyone to see.
In the lead up to the Dubbo workshop the group will have a pre-workshop working with professional puppeteer Georgia Wohlfiel. Where they will prepare for their Dubbo workshop and learn the art of making their very own secret group lantern that will be unveiled at Fong Lees Lane. This has been possible due to the wonderful support and in partnership with Orana Arts, WINS and the DREAM Festival.

Colouring CompetitionRecently Wellington Arts representatives were very excited to visit primary schools from Wellington, Namina, Mumbil, Stuart Town, Yeoval, Geurie, Goolma, Ballimore, Euchareena and Wongarbon to invite the students to be part of our colouring competition of a Chinese Lion and lots of lanterns.
We will be collecting the coloured in posters from the schools on Tuesday 16 October, and hope parents and families come to Fong Lees Lane on Friday 26 October to see your child’s poster hanging in the lane. Prizes have been donated by Taronga Western Plains Zoo.

Collaborating with Chinese Inmates
Wellington Arts Centre and the event Co-ordinators of Fong Lees Lane are very pleased to be working with Orana Arts Projects and the Chinese inmates at the Wellington Correction Centre.
The inmates will be making gifts of good wishes, success and good luck to be handed out to guests at Fong Lees Lane on Friday 26 October.
They are also creating banners for us in Chinese script of positive welcomes, happiness and prosperity to the Fong Lee Lane event and its participants. We are very excited to be collaborating, creating positive associations between the jail and the town of Wellington and in having their wonderful gifts to give on the night.
