There is a family video of me as a very serious five-year-old, drawing detailed pictures in ballpoint pen on scraps of computer paper, which was and still is my happy place. Since childhood I have been drawn to portraying expressions, characters and emotion, meaning I focus primarily on people and animals. When I can bring a drawing to life, there is a joy and a depth in that which feels like an echo of the heart of God.
My first illustration projects were picture books and covers completed for friends and teachers through high school. Various commissions followed at intervals, although mostly I would use my artworks as gifts. In recent years I have done many portraits, the record being a request for 21 faces in the one artwork. I have not yet pursued art as a career, but have begun to head in that direction by putting together a website to showcase new works, sell prints and share my development as an artist. For larger paintings I usually use acrylics, and for smaller works a combination of watercolour and graphic marker, or pencil. I would love the time and space to experiment and grow my skills. My dreams include writing and illustrating my own children’s books and winning a national portrait prize. [email protected] www.fifthandsixth.com.au |
