Caves Wood Gallery & Gifts

Although Caves Wood Gallery has about 6 Award Winning Turners work in it, the main Man is Ken Vodden who is a retired cabinet maker with extensive knowledge of timber. 
​Segmented wood turning has become Ken’s passion, the colour grain and feel of timber challenges Ken to create a multitude of shapes and patterns through wood turning and sculpting.  He was trained in cabinet making in 1968 with further courses over the next few years, retired due to back problems in 2007, concentrating on wood turning and competing in many shows. His work winning many awards. He escaped to wonderful Wellington in 2014 to start his new venture with his partner Chris.

Chris Hardy has worked in retail with house paint and colours for many years, but her hobby has always been handicrafts, so the Gallery has her work and about another 6 ladies whose interests are in making things with their hands. 
There is a selection of Greeting Cards, Jewellery, painted and crocheted/knitted items.

Caves Wood Gallery and Gifts also has a few vintage/retro pieces for sale, some belonging to Chris’s Mother and Grandma brought out from England in 1967.
There is a window in the Gallery to see Ken at work (also his many tools) and he also devotes one night a week to teaching people.   

Caves Wood Gallery sponsors the Wood Turning at the local Agricultural Show to encourage new turners.
Ken and Chris love their country lifestyle out on Caves Road, the Gallery is open most days – as their house is next door but you can always phone ahead to make sure it is open,
