Jan Payne is a Wellington born and residing local artist.
My passion for art has been life long, from school day beginnings until my current art studio “Kinrock” in Wellington. Having been fortunate to have a career in nursing until retiring in December 2017, has enabled me to attend many workshops over the years. These included week long, creative arts courses at Bathurst University and weekend workshops from many talented lectures, including Jack McDonough, Rae Andrews, Herman Pekel , Stephen Cassetteri, Tony Simbert, Jenny Rushbrook, Judy Shaloub , Keith Norris and Lorraine Lewitzka. In 2015 a close friend arranged a position for us, in a weekend workshop in Dubbo, which increased our range of media to include Ink’s and acrylic paints. While expanding my own areas of media, it also inspired me to share my vast years of experience by opening up my studio to friends to complete unfinished works with a little positive encouragement. This year I have also re commenced classes for beginners in watercolours and acrylics in my “Kinrock” studio. Over the past few years I have been invited by Ridgecrest craft camp to teach 1.Watercolour painting with each participant completing 3 paintings over the weekend and 2.Watercolour painted gift cards, where paint application consistency, brush strokes and basic Watercolour technique was given. Wellington Quota, Local Show and Wellington Arts have all encouraged me to exhibit in their annual events. Each year I have received first place in multiple art sections at the show. The September Art and Sculpture festival has launched my work and boosted the sale of many of my paintings. Most of my previous work has been commissions from family and friends, which I find very rewarding. Last year I have also included “Cell “painting, into my range of media.
